The following line is in /etc/openldap/slapd.conf:
allow bind_v2
I am unsure if its needed and without checking, I dont know what it does.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/ldap-howto.xml is the HOWTO used to configure ldap on gentoo and I think the entry was accidentally uncommented and found its way into the final configuration.
Everything works ok with this entry left in on my cluster.
